What is burial?

Burial is a traditional way of burying the body of an ancestor in a coffin in the ground (commonly known as “funeral” in the Mainland), to fulfill the concept of “rest in peace” and the need for rituals. The burial process includes:

  1. Selection of burial site

  2. Preparation of casket

  3. Holding the funeral ceremony

  4. Completing the burial

Burial is a continuation of traditional culture and provides a permanent place of worship for future generations.

Green Funeral Options

With the shortage of land resources, the Hong Kong Government promotes environmentally friendly funeral options, including:

  • Scattering of cremains at sea

  • Scattering of cremains at Gardens of Remembrance

  • Online memorial service

These methods are environmentally friendly and economical, and are gradually being accepted by more and more families.

  1. Location:
The accessibility of the cemetery's gravesites to the family's place of residence.

  2. Facilities of the Administering Authority:
Whether the services and facilities provided by the cemetery are adequate.

  3. Cost range:
Depending on the budget, the type of cemetery will be suitable.

Our advice:

  • Families should visit the cemetery in person to get a feel for the situation.

  • Contact the cemetery office or undertaker's representative for more details.
